Reading Challenges
Deerlake participates in the Sunshine State Young Readers Award (SSYRA) Challenge every year. SSYRA books are fun reads chosen by Florida librarians and represent different genres. The goal is to get students to try different genres and have fun reading.
Students are asked to read three out of the 14-15 books on the SSYRA list and take a short quiz on what they read. The quizzes can be found in the Media_Deerlake Canvas page under the SSYRA tab. Just click on the book cover to access the quiz. The deadline is the last school day in the month of February and the reward which is usually a party with pizza, ice cream and bingo for prizes.
Our Student Library Advisory Council sponsors Reading Challenges each nine weeks. Students are asked to read two books during the nine weeks and complete the below book review form on those books. Completed forms are turned into Mrs. Mahone in the LC. Past reading rewards have been an egg hunt, s’mores, snow flurries and hot cocoa, candy buffett and more. It’s easy to participate just read!
